Imported from Costa Rica, Geisha is an Ethiopian wild coffee that has been transplanted and grown for generations on Costa Rica. An ancient and a very rare coffee, the name Geisha comes from the Ethiopian town of Gesha where the coffee plant was first found. Geisha coffee is unusual in many ways; it is different in appearance, is naturally resistant to some diseases, and the beans are long and slender. Also, interestingly enough Geisha beans naturally produce about 30% less caffeine than most other coffees. The crop yield of the Geisha Coffee plant is extremely low, which is why it is so difficult to find commercial plantations and production of this coffee.
In the cup the taste of Geisha Coffee from Costa Rica has a soft and delicate profile with quietly complex aromatics that reward patient attention: flowering grass, lavender, a crisp, rather vegetal cocoa, hints of molasses and pipe tobacco. Gentle acidity, medium body, silky mouthfeel. Flavor, particularly cocoa, saturates the long, lingering finish. A medium roast brings out the best in this blend. Whole Bean Coffee.
