The recipe for Panforte, literally "Strong Bread" in English, dates back to the 13th Century. A Tuscan specialty, Date and Almond Panforte is made from all-natural ingredients like almonds, chocolate, sugar, wheat flour, honey, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. It has a heavy consistency, and a chewy, thick texture. Originally a Christmas pastry, Panforte is now enjoyed year round by Italian cuisine enthusiasts around the world.
This Panforte di Siena comes from Pasticceria Marabissi, a third generation family-run business that is considered to be the most prestigious producer of true Panforte di Siena in Italy. Marabissi makes each of their panforte cakes by hand using traditional methods and the finest Italian ingredients. Their panforte has won many significant awards.
Note: The bottoms of panforte are coated in wafer paper to keep them from sticking. It does not need to be pulled off of the cake prior to consumption as it is edible.
